The label is torn with gold leaf on the edge, reinforcing the divide the gold rush created between friends and loved ones at this time in history.\u003C\u002Fdiv>\r\n\u003Cp>Studio Duco share some background info - \u003Cem>These labels highlight the hardship faced by miners in 1850s Victoria. The Shiraz Back Story: Once gold was discovered around 1850, people flocked from all corners of the world to Victoria in search of wealth. This led to overcrowding and friction between rival miners. Friends would sometimes become rivals, sneaking off under the cover of darkness to mine, attempting to find the gold for themselves. The Chardonnay Back Story: In 1850 Victoria, husbands left their wives and families for the goldfields and many never returned. With kids to provide for, women took matters into their own hands. Many became teachers, business owners and in some cases prospectors. In 1854 it was reported that there were 12,660 men on the goldfields of Victoria and 4,023 women showing the men up at their own game.
