Created to accompany A.K. Mulford's new dark romantasy novel, the two maps help establish the book's immersive world. Working with editor Natalie Nguyễn at HarperCollins, New York, Juliet approached each illustration with a distinct purpose.
One map presents the dream realm of Veldir, charting twelve key locations in a detailed fantasy setting shaped by rocky terrain and gothic influences.
The second takes a more conceptual approach, depicting five interconnected planes of existence arranged around a tree, with higher realms in the branches and lower realms in the roots. Inspired by the manuscript, Juliet developed a symmetrical composition that can be viewed in either direction, reflecting the story's shifting ideas of good and evil while reinforcing the dreamlike atmosphere at the heart of the book.
