Liam began the project with a day of on-location sketching to gather references, using the visit to study the building, surroundings and details that would shape the final piece. The Coach & Horses pub in south-west London offered a rich subject, with its picturesque setting and sense of history providing the starting point for the finished painting.
Back in the studio, Liam used his location sketches and reference material to complete the final artwork, developing the composition through pencil studies, tonal values and colour.
