Eating With the Sun

Lauren Mortimer collaborates with author Megan Zhang on the cover of 'Eating with the Sun', weaving food, identity and the Chinese calendar into one evocative visual.

Lauren has created the an eye-catching cover illustration for the author's forthcoming memoir, Eating with the Sun (publishing 2026), which "braids together memoir, cultural history, and nutritional philosophy to bring readers on a journey through the 24 phases of the Chinese lunisolar calendar.”

Through surreal imagery that fuses food and landscape, her design creates a symbolic concept that beautifully reflects the rhythm of seasonal eating and cultural heritage.

Released by Gallery Books, the cover complements Zhang’s narrative of food, identity, and tradition, providing a visual doorway into a story of nourishment, ancestry, and personal discovery.
