The Taste of Ruákh Wines

For Ruákh Wines’ 2023 release Somos Café de Olla, Briana created a hand-illustrated label that tells a story of memory, ritual and shared table culture.

Commissioned by Sam, the winemaker and founder behind this small-production label, the artwork honours the spirit of café de olla—rich Mexican coffee steeped with cinnamon, piloncillo and spice. 

The name Somos Café de Olla was inspired by a moment of connection during a difficult day. “We were never going to be everyone’s cup of tea because somos café de olla,” a fellow winemaker told Sam. The phrase stuck with her—an affirmation of embracing what makes us different, like the spiced, stove-top brewed coffee that is nothing like tea, but deeply comforting in its own right.

Briana's design places the viewer at the table, surrounded by sunflowers, bright citrus, and familiar hands. The result is intimate and grounded.
