The Headless Woman

Butcher Billy was commissioned by Verso Publisher to illustrate the cover for Nadine Monfils’ crime novel La Femme sans tête, the latest entry in her new Belgian mystery series.

The artwork leans into his signature retro-comic language: bold linework, hard contrast, and a graphic novel sensibility that feels torn from a pulp paperback and pinned to the present. 

The result is a cover that doesn’t decorate the novel so much as set its temperature, signalling a crime story steeped in satire, surrealism, and literary mischief.
