More about vector illustration

Vector illustration comes from the computing term ‘vector graphics’ – the method by which the shapes, lines and colours in an image are defined and stored using mathematical formulae. Vector graphics software became popular in the 1990s, giving rise to a new illustration style characterised by basic geometric shapes, precise line work and flat areas of colour. Today, illustrators use vector graphics in innovative ways to visualise everything from starfish to satellites. It’s particularly useful in pattern making and the design of icons and symbols. Vector images can be scaled to any size, which makes them extremely flexible in creative campaigns.
