Fashion illustration is a creative genre typified by expressive brushstrokes or line work, that ingeniously accentuate the forms of the models and garments elegantly and with feeling. The French artist Renee Gruau pioneered fashion illustration during mid-20th century and has inspired new generations of artists – each of whom represents fashion, luxury and beauty topics in their own unique ways.
Commissioned by all forms of mainstream media, retailers and fashion brands themselves, fashion illustrators bring life, character and a sense of creativity to their clients’ projects. Often, things turn full circle, and fashion designers themselves are inspired by the work of fashion illustrators past and present.
