Dan Couto is a Toronto CGI artist making photoreal food, beauty, packaging and CPG images for advertising. He lights and builds hero stills and motion the way a photographer shoots a product. Clients come to him for brand-accurate materials, food that reads as real, and packaging that holds up in print and on pack.
Coming from a photography background, Dan was one of the first artists in Canada to add 3D to his practice and has stayed in photoreal commercial work ever since. Clients use him for hero product, food and beauty stills because he can explain the CG and still deliver a frame that looks shot, not rendered.
His lighting comes from years on set. Composition leans graphic — comic panels, fashion pages, Caravaggio to Klimt — but the job is always the product.
